GRUNT FISH

bluestriped grunt fish
french grunt
sailor choice grunt
white-grunt
porkfish grunt
smallmouth grunt

The common family name is derived from the unusual "grunt" sound produced when teeth grinding deep within their throats is amplified by the air bladder. Grunts are closely related to snappers, but they are generally smaller.

At night the noctural feeders scavenge in sand flats and grass bed for crustaceans. Grunts often make up the largest biomass on the reefs.
